Prefabricated Interior Construction (DIRTT) Designer

The Prefabricated Interior Construction (DIRTT) Designer is part artist, part visionary, part engineer, part computer tech, and part leader all rolled into one. This role will be responsible for taking clients’ needs and ideas from concept to factory order. This includes using your design background and pushing 21st century tools to the limit, in the name of building better client solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds long-term and loyal customer relationships by identifying solutions to meet customer’s needs.
  • Understand that a DIRTT project is not a product installation. Working with DIRTT should be an innovative and unique experience for every client, from initial education through to final walkthrough.
  • Understand the scope of work on site and know all the details of a project. Take the clients’ needs and ideas and guide them to a DIRTT specific solution that will wow all stakeholders.
  • Partners with client, architects and general contractor regularly to communicate, educate and recommend product design, electrical and construction interfaces. Supports preplanning and conceptual design.
  • Design client projects using ICE® software, populating the DIRTT space from scratch or from a predesigned AutoCAD™ plan. Assign and/or prepare presentation and graphic content, like renderings, fly-through videos and proposals.
  • Review all production information and drawings for accuracy.
  • Directs the creation of necessary construction detail drawings as needed to communicate to the installation crew and Project Manager to ensure clients concept and ideas are completed seamlessly. Supports Project Manager(s) with orders as needed.
  • Understands and conveys the AOI philosophy and culture throughout the department and community.
  • Collaborates on design activities and resources. Provides input on performance goals and reviews. May assign projects and recommend training opportunities to keep the design team educated on product, specification, software, best practices, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the DIRTT team and client needs.

Qualifications

  • A degree from an accredited school in design or related major; or equivalent related experience and/or training.
  • Minimum of two years related commercial design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and other 3D software. Advanced design technology desirable.
  • Previous related industry experience preferred in architectural, interiors, construction, and/or project management.
  • Previous knowledge of DIRTT’s solutions including its layers and how they work together, as well as an understanding of how DIRTT is installed, would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and sensitive inquiries from groups of employees, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex design documents, blueprints, technical procedures, owner concepts, regulations, and business periodicals.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedures, and has excellent communication skills. Positive and professional communication skills are critical in person and via presentations, phone, email, fax, or other electronic communication devices.
  • Microsoft Office and related design software knowledge and experience required.
  • Time management skills and ability to delegate to team members.

  • Strong organization and project coordination skills required to handle multiple and simultaneous requests for the design team.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of management, employees and client base.
  • Self-starter and independently motivated. Ability to grow and engage team members.
  • Thrives in chaos with the ability to work through details and problem solve while remaining calm.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists.
  • Basic knowledge of accepted construction/electrical standards and practices helpful.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and owner concepts furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
